Abstract

Through the analysis of the Iliad characters decision-making scenes, this paper aims to discuss Julian Jaynes’ hypothesis, according to which, in the Homeric period, there were not words or expressions for modern concepts as subjective consciousness, volition or for the body as a whole, since such concepts would only emerge much later in the history of human nature. In light of the above, this paper intends to discuss Jaynes’ hypothesis.
