This article aims to explore the Latin nominal system in the Rudimenta Grammatices, by Niccolò Perotti (Rome, 1475), in order to reflect on Latin teaching in Italian Renaissance, and to restore linguistic ideas included in this compendium. For this purpose, we compare Perotti’s nomenclature with that one employed by Servius, Priscianus and Donatus, authors who wrote at Late Antiquity and whose works were used to teach Latin during Middle Ages. Then, we will propose a short discussion about points of rupture and continuity between the Latin taught in the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance.
