Rhetoric and praise in the letters of Pliny the Younger
Keywords:
epideitic genre, letters of Pliny the younger, letter I,10Abstract
This article discusses, based in the assumptions established by authors like Cicero (De oratore) and Quintilian (Institutio oratoria), how Pliny the Younger uses the epideictic genre in the letter I, 10. It analyzes the textual construction of the praise and the possible purposes of use this kind of discourse in epistolary Plinian work. Such use might be related both to an establishment of exemplary virtue profiles as an explanation of the literary field that Pliny participates.
