Abstract

Women are the majority in the clothing construction sectors, especially in sewing. Focusing on Brazil, this study seeks to understand the participation of black women in the sewing sector in Brazil in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Thus, information was sought about the profession of seamstress within the production chain, rescuing, at the narrative level, a role that until today has little presence in the history of fashion and clothing. Making use of a bibliographical and historical research, it was sought, through the methodology of intersectionality and the concept of Amefricanity, to prove the relationship of black women with the subordinate work that involves sewing and the desire to maintain the place of the feminine.
