Cinema and the critical-literary space: the role of illustrated magazines in the formation of the reader / viewer audience

Abstract

This paper discusses the formation of the reader / viewer audience at the beginning of the 20th century and the mediating role of the magazine specialized in cinema Cinearte in this process. The space for the diffusion of Brazilian cinema is addressed within the column “Cinema Brasileiro” and the intellectual function in the action of improving the Brazilian visual product together with an expansion of the critical-literary space for authors within the periodical. It is also discussed the trajectory of the magazine and how it integrated the spaces for the circulation of impressions and ideas within a Brazil that went from 1927 to 1942.
