Health Education: the senses of oral health

Abstract

This article was carried out with a group of thirty nine women. The goal was to analyse the senses of the concepts about oral health for a group of women because they are thought to be relevant points for the construction of new approaches in health education. The data collecting was done at 2 moments: 1) questionnaire 2) collecting of information through the technique of oral  account (focal group). The questionnaire characterized the group of women while the use of the technique of oral account permitted approximation with the experiences of the focal group, transiting between fantasy and reality built by means of looking and perception. It is noted that the form with which the subjects of the research perceive their oral health, their needs and the way they intend to resolve other problems, not always corresponds to what the health professionals expect. In this perspective, health education, sustained by a contextualizing approach, makes possible the close knowledge of the necessities of the people as to their problems.
