Abstract

This article seeks to analyze how women experiencing domestic violence and who are, either directly or indirectly, involved with urban gangs navigate between the protection and punishment networks enforced by criminal factions, as well as the institutional networks designed to address violence against women. The main objective is to identify how these women develop legal-political strategies to safeguard their lives and avoid being killed. The analysis draws on notions of protection and punishment within the context of factional-jurisdictional dynamics and explores how the violence against women becomes factionalized.
