This article discusses how violence and resistance related to urban conflicts have multiplied and diversified in Brazil in recent years. The proposal is based on Machado da Silva's (2008) idea that urban violence is a collective representation that gives meaning to experiences lived in cities and that instrumentally and morally guides the course of action of its inhabitants. Furthermore, it assumes that in order to understand urban violence, it is necessary to consider its territorial dimension.
