Abstract

From a Spinozist perspective, which Gilles Deleuze (1925-1995) approaches as an ethology, in which the body is defined by the minimum and maximum thresholds of its potency, we seek to understand how non-monogamous bodies are manufactured: singularly, as individual arrangements, and plurally, in arrangements that we refer to as intimate constellations. Through a cartographic procedure that draws a map of affections, we investigate the life story of Leci, a black woman, in her becoming non-monogamous. This analysis highlights resistance to control of one's own body, clashes with racial essentialist discourses, and the difficulties present in processes of deterritorialization of monogamy. We also highlight the reterritorialization of her constellation under monogamous practices, whether due to the conflicts this way of life faces in the social field or due to the feelings evoked in individuals who practice them.
