PUBLICATION POLICY

Titration for submissions: Teoria e Cultura publishes articles developed by postgraduate researchers; therefore, the minimum title requested for authors is MA (master’s degree) or students undertaking the MA program. Researches by undergraduate students are not going to be accepted.

Fees: Teoria e Cultura does not charge the authors for submissions, evaluations, releasing of their articles or any other type of text. Our academic journal follows the principle that scientific knowledge should be free and accessible to the public as it allows the worldwide democratization of this very knowledge.

Evaluation process among the peers: Steady stream manuscripts go through two preliminary stages. The first one, as they are presented to the publishing team, texts are analyzed and verified with respect to the journal’s criteria (characters number, co-authorship, titration, etc.), focus and scope. By the second stage, the manuscript is forwarded to evaluation by outside collaborators within bilateral anonymity. When it comes to submitted articles for themed issues, the organizers are responsible for the initial sorting as well as the confirmation of the manuscript’s adequacy to the purpose. They are also responsible for the referral of the texts to their dossiers, within bilateral anonymity. In all these stages, the decision can take up to three months after the manuscript has been sent to the reviewers. By the end of its evaluation, the author is going to be informed about the manuscript’s approval or rejection. In case of positive evaluations, the article is going to be submitted for its final adjustments and publication.

Copyright and Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY): By submitting a manuscript to Teoria e Cultura, the author(s) certifies the uniqueness of the text and the commitment of not sending the same work to another journal during the evaluation process. The journal is not going to register two simultaneous evaluations from the same author. The submission of any collaboration automatically implicates the integral copyright to Teoria e Cultura, which adopts the internationally accepted CC-BY License. It is comprehended that every author accepts this license usage.

Ethics and negligence declaration: Teoria e Cultura condemns bad scientific practice, as the one based on plagiarism and self-plagiarism (publication with previously published material took as a new content one). Thus, author(s) should be committed to the integrity of the articles content which is of the entirely responsibility of their submitters. Eventual cases of bad practice are going to be reviewed by the editorial board.

Free access policies: Teoria e Cultura offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle of complimentary scientific knowledge to the public which allows wider democratization of information.

GUIDELINES FOR COLLABORATIONS

Typography: Manuscripts should be prepared with simple line spacing, size 11 Arial Narrow font, paged with 3cm top left margin and 2cm bottom right, on A4 paper.

Titration and Author(s) Information: The title of the work should be typed in bold. The title should be presented in two different languages, as the translations of its abstract (see “abstract” below). All authors’ bibliographical data should not be cited in any part of the manuscript’s first version to the platform as a way of guaranteeing a fair evaluation. They are going to be added by the author(s) in due course, after the approval of the manuscript, during the review part of the selection process. Accordingly, the author(s) bibliographical and institutional information should be thoroughly filled in “Metadata”, available in the moment of the submission. The obligatory completion of this information allows the article to advance to the evaluation stage by Teoria e Cultura editorial board.

Abstracts: Articles in Portuguese should be submitted with an abstract (150-200 words), title and keywords and its correspondent translation to English (abstract, title and keywords as well). Articles in English must have their titles, abstract and keywords in both English and Portuguese. In case of submitted articles in different languages, they must be supplemented with titles, abstracts and keywords in the original language, English and Portuguese. Therefore, articles in Portuguese and English are presented in those previous two languages and articles in the other languages are presented in three languages.

Keywords: Texts must hold between three to five keywords on their main subject, always separated by final dots, as in keywords and mots-clés.

Text: Texts must contain between 5,000 up to 9,000 words for the articles and 3,000 to 5,000 for feedbacks/viewpoints, pensatas, essays and investigation notes; and between 2,000 to 3,000 words for book and academic works’ reviews.

Text Structure: All submitted work must be followed by title in the vernacular language, and an appropriate version in a foreign language (as described above in “abstract”); a correspondent abstract in the original language plus another one in a foreign language (150 to 200 words), with the suitable divisions; which could include, for instance, introduction, theoretical referential, methodology, results and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments and references.

Quotations: Direct quotations should use the same size 10 font, and the notes should use the same font, but in size 9. Do not use different fonts or sizes in the text. Stressed terms or paragraphs should be in italic.

Notes: Any explanatory notes must be used only if strictly necessary, and should be used as footnotes, in the very size 9 font of the text.

Abbreviations and Acronyms: They should be clearly definite and indicated in their first use in the text.

Quotation and Bibliographical References Guidelines: For further details, follow the norms presented here.

Languages: Teoria e Cultura accepts articles in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.

Illustrations and Tables: Illustrations (charts, graphics, schemes, flowcharts, organograms, pictures, photographs, etc.) and tables must be included in the text. They all need captions – title and source. Tables and illustrations can follow the author(s) desired format, as long as they are suitable for the Word layout. In case of any difficulties, the editorial board may get in touch for offering eventual solutions.
