Autism is characterized by deficits in social skills, communication, and behavior. We investigated the relationship between cognitive measures and behavioral symptoms in 45 children with ASD. Positive correlations were found between the CARS scale and diagnostic severity, as well as with Trail Making Test Part A. Age correlated with the Withdrawal subscale. Diagnostic severity was related to the subscales of Thought Problems and Attention Problems. Socialization correlated with the Vocabulary subtest. Boys showed higher levels of withdrawal. Diagnostic severity predicted 16% of attention problem scores and 11% of thought problems.
