Joining and staying at the university causes changes in lifestyle and requires skilled social interactions, which are not always adaptively experienced by young people. The objective was to explore Brazilian empirical studies published in the last ten years on social skills and social anxiety in college students. Ten articles were found combining the terms "social anxiety", "social skills" and "university". Results were unanimous affirming the effectiveness of the training of social skills for their development and for the improvement of social anxiety symptoms in university students. It was concluded that the creation of social skills development programs within the universities is necessary because this space needs to offer conditions that allow the physical and mental health care of its students.
