About the Journal
Focus and Scope
This is an academic journal of the Postgraduate Program in Communication (PPGCOM) at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). In line with the program's objectives, centered on the area of concentration "Communication and Society" and two lines of research: 1) Communicational processes and social interfaces and 2) Networks, languages, and memories, it is understood that studies in the field of Communication encompass complex, networked, socio-historical, and constantly transforming phenomena. From this perspective, we invite the submission of papers that make relevant contributions to the field, prioritizing theoretical aspects in dialogue with methodological constructions and the use of empirical methods (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed), as well as the presentation of research results.
Scientific Integrity and the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
POLICIES IN EFFECT FROM DECEMBER 22, 2025
Lumina has decided to establish the following policies of ethical conduct, responsible use, and transparency for authors, reviewers, and editors in their interactions with Artificial Intelligence, based on recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (ABEC) arising from emerging dilemmas of AI in scientific publication. These guidelines will be under constant review.
For authors:
1) It is mandatory to inform, in the submitted text, about the use of AI and at what points in the process – Methodology, Literature Review, Discussion;
2) It is prohibited to generate original data or fabricate references (non-existent citations) or replace human critical analysis and conclusions;
For reviewers:
1) The use of any AI tools is prohibited due to Lumina's confidentiality policy regarding unpublished articles;
2) Peer review requires human knowledge and responsibility.
For editors:
1) Lumina uses the academic-professional tool iThenticate in its DeskReview process for pre-screening against plagiarism, contracted through the Periodicals Portal of the Vice-Rectorate for Postgraduate Studies and Research (PROPP) of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora.
2) The editorial team is prohibited from inserting any manuscript into generative and generalist AI tools.
Peer Review Process
1. Texts (national and international articles, interviews and reviews) submitted to the Lumina journal are subject to a scientific arbitration process through anonymous evaluation (peer-review) by two experts in the field appointed by the Editorial Board.
2. The Editorial Board reserves the right not to publish texts that do not fit the scope of the journal (pre-analysis by the scientific editors), that show a high rate of similarity to other works (verified by anti-plagiarism software, as described in the Author Guidelines), that do not comply with scientific writing standards and ABNT (we provide a model/template), that do not comply with the Guidelines and regulations governing research involving human beings (Resolution No. 466/12) and applicable standards for research in Human and Social Sciences (Resolution No. 510/16), as well as texts whose evaluations are not positive (after anonymous double-blind peer review).
