Abstract

ABSTRACT: Interactions in institutional contexts constitute a dynamic of their own involving the participating subjects through the use of specific linguistic constructions, appropriate to what is happening at the time of interaction. Based on this understanding, this work has as object of study the linguistic interactions in the ordinary sessions that take place in the Municipality of Piripiri - PI. The objective is to investigate the interactional dynamics observed in the ordinary sessions of the City Council of Piripiri as an institutional context, with emphasis on politeness strategies. For this, as specific objectives: to identify the contextualization clues used in the interaction and to analyze the politeness strategies mobilized by the participants. The theoretical foundation of the study are the postulates of Interactional Sociolinguistics proposed by Gumperz (1982) and followers, also seeking support in Levinson (1989), Brown and Levinson (1987), Goffman (1980), in some concepts, still, of Hymes (1964). Data collection corresponds to the months of May and June 2022, in which qualitative research instruments with an ethnographic bias were used: observation, field notes and session recordings. The results point to the use of politeness strategies in order to build narratives that smooth out confrontational settings in addition to characterizing these scenarios as institutional contexts.
