Abstract

The article presents a variationist research with the objective of verifying which strategies in indeterminacy grammatical subjects are used by students in the final year of Elementary School when writing of opinion articles. The research is based on the theoretical postulates of Duarte (2007), Bravin (2012) and Perini (2010) who consider the existence of more subjetct indeterminacy strategies besides the two strategies that Traditional Grammar illustrates. The results obtained show that students make use of a varied number of indetermination strategies, in addition to those endorsed by Traditional Grammar, which, on the other hand, were little used. In addition, they also point out to the need for the school to rethink the way it has been working on the subject if it wishes to carry out a productive and reflective work regarding subject indeterminacy in line with the official documents that regulate the teaching of the Portuguese language.
