This paper aims to discuss how the affective turn (PAVLENKO, 2012) in the Applied Linguistics field has been transforming the epistemological aspects of the area from a consideration of the subject who is endowed with a unity between cognition and emotion and participates in social practices through the use of languages. Studies on the subject were surveyed in “Portal Capes de Teses e Dissertações” in order to understand how emotions have been understood and addressed in the inter/transdisciplinary field of Brazilian applied linguistics. The data suggest that the various studies carried out in a national context about emotions in language use practices have demonstrated an epistemological transformation in the understanding of the subject and his agency in the practices of language use as a way of acting in society.
