Abstract

Law 10,436 of 2002 brought changes in different contexts of the Brazilian deaf community and one of these was the schooling process, given that today the presence of Deaf people in school environments is recurrent. Therefore, it is urgent to rethink reading training practices taking into account LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language), so with this work we intend to discuss literary literacy and LIBRAS, in addition to exposing retelling as an activity that can provide reading training for Deaf students. We conducted a bibliographic research and intervention based on the retelling of the children's literary work Chapeuzinho Vermelho. We conclude that the retelling, when done in sign language, allows the deaf to appropriate the macro and microstructures of the basic text.
