The global terror derived from COVID-19 has asked humanity to reflect deeply on the future of education in the world. This article discusses an emerging and controversial topic: distance learning. It advocates for popular control of global knowledge and digital technologies based on proposals by an internationalist organization of ‘global resistance platforms’. It is based on two reading keys that mobilizes the theme: the first refers to the ideological-narrative bases of distance learning, namely, the discourse of the anticipated future and techno-idealism in education. The second connects a historical set of norms approved in an attempt to shape distance learning in Brazil with asymmetry of the economic, political and educational project of the current Bolsonaro government. In addition, it talks about the evolution of the critical thinking in the educational field on the distance learning debate. It concludes that it is necessary to mirror the “left” side of technology and its potential as a mediation to be conquered and controlled by the subordinate classes.
