MISSED IMMUNIZATION OPPORTUNITIES IN A PEDIATRIC HOSPITAL IN ARACAJU, SERGIPE, BRAZIL
Abstract
This study aims to describe the vaccine situation of children under twelve years old that were attended at the hospital. at Pediatric Hospital, in the city of Aracaju, Brazil, in 2005, according epidemiological variables, and estimate causes and the rate of the missed immunization opportunities. Was carried a transversal study. Was interviewed the responsible for 484 children had presented the card of vaccination at the moment of the interview. The data had been collected from the card, the inquiry and of information obtained from the reports on child. It was verified 73.1% of vaccine adequacy. The vaccine that presented the lesser adequacy was the DPT/Tetravalente (79.1%). Statistical associations between immunization condition and age of the child, live in county and maternal instructions were detected. The 130 children with inadequacy vaccination calendar, in only 11 the cause was a true contraindication, being the OPV of the sample of 25.2%. Amongst the causes for the vaccination, was verifying that the attitude of the population (47.9%) and the attitude of the health staff (31.9%). It was concluded that persist vulnerable groups with rates of covering. The OPV indicates the necessity of implantation of immunization’s service in the hospital, beyond action next to the services of primary health care, to implement the monitoring to the health of the child, especially after hospitalization, as well as promoting action education for the professionals of health (hospital and primary attention), and of popular education in health, with priority in the cities of the interior of the state.Downloads
