Abstract

The research aims to understand and problematize representations of gender relations that princesses from Walt Disney animated films disseminate, highlighting them as protagonists, historical-cultural and symbolic characters of the feminine. The period is from 1998 to 2016, selecting four films: Mulan, The Princess and the Frog, Brave and Moana. The research is qualitative and interpretive and part of the methodology of bibliographic review and study from feminist and gender contributions, approaching cultural perspectives and some Foucauldian assumptions, thus promoting crossings between the fields of history, cinema and education. With this research we propose critical reflections to these characters in order that these films are not merely reproduced to girls and women, and these, educated as beautiful, fragile, delicate, silenced and loaded with feminine stereotypes, opening paths for a formation media and pedagogy more equitable for all.
