Resumo

Inglês: The impacts of the hypermedia gloss in the teaching and learning of implicit vocabulary of students in elementary and intermediate level of proficiency in English
This study aims to comparatively investigate to what extent the hypermedia gloss favors the implicit teaching and learning of implicit vocabulary of students in elementary and intermediate level of English and which annotations contribute to the learning of these students. The work is based on the assumptions of the Cognitive Theory of the Multimedia Learning by Mayer (1997; 2001), The Integrated effects of multimedia on Learning by Hede (2002) and the Connectionism Approach (ZIMMER, 2008). The results show that the use of hypermedia gloss can contribute to vocabulary learning of elementary and intermediate level students. However, in comparison, the intermediate level students seem to benefit more from the use of the hypermedia gloss.
Key-words: vocabulary; hypermedia gloss; linguist proficiency.
