Factors Associated with Congruence in the Initial Therapeutic Alliance

The Alliance is a common factor that can be measured in the perception of the patient and the therapist, and their congruence is considered a robust factor in psychotherapy. The study sought the association of demographic and clinical variables with the alliance and its congruence. The design was cross-sectional, participants were 183 pairs, 183 patients and 53 psychotherapists and WAI (alliance), BSI (symptoms) and medical records instruments. Female patients are more congruent in the objective dimension and male patients are more congruent in the bond. Male psychotherapists more congruent in the bond, older psychotherapists more congruent in the task. The clinical relevance is the collaboration in understanding congruence in the aliance.
