Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to examine associations between PPD and joint attention during mother–infant face-to-face interactions. Participants were forty-two dyads of mothers and their babies. Observational analyses were conducted. Non-PPD dyads engaged more in joint attention and their episodes lasted longer. The mothers who engaged in joint attention had more years of schooling. There was an association between mother-boys dyads and the frequency of joint attention. However, the girls looked more at their mothers and for a longer time. Findings suggested that joint attention is influenced by PPD associated with the maternal lower level of education.
