Code of Ethics

Lumina draws inspiration from the code of publication ethics prepared by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), addressed to editors, reviewers, and authors.

Commitments of the authors:

  • Originality and plagiarism: the authors of manuscripts submitted to Lumina guarantee that the submitted work is original and does not contain excerpts taken from other authors or fragments of works that have already been published. In addition, the authors confirm the truthfulness of the information, that is, that no empirical data were altered to verify the hypothesis.
  • Multiple and/or redundant publications: We consider it reprehensible and ethically improper to simultaneously submit the same contribution to multiple scientific journals.
  • List of references: the author must always correctly indicate the sources and contributions mentioned in the article.
  • Authorship: The authors guarantee that all individuals who made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution to the conceptualization and planning of the work, as well as to the interpretation of the results and the writing of the article, have been included. In this context, the authors must be listed hierarchically, according to their level of responsibility for the submitted work.
  • Conflict of interest and disclosure: all authors must explicitly declare that there are no conflicts of interest that could have influenced the results obtained or the interpretations proposed. The authors must also indicate any research funding agencies and/or projects related to the work.
  • Errors in published articles: when an author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy in their article, this must be promptly reported to the journal's editors, along with all the information necessary to list the relevant corrections at the bottom of the article.
  • Responsibility: all authors take responsibility for what they have written. The authors also attest that they have conducted a review of current and relevant scientific literature on the topic analyzed, prioritizing plural currents of knowledge.

Commitments of the reviewers:

  • Contribution to the editorial decision: peer review is a procedure that helps editors make decisions about submitted articles and allows the author to improve the contribution submitted for publication. Reviewers commit to conducting a critical, honest, constructive, and objective review of both the scientific and literary quality of the written work, based on their knowledge and skills.
  • Respect for time: a reviewer who does not feel qualified to carry out the task assigned to them, or who is unable to complete the evaluation of the proposed contribution within the stipulated time, must promptly notify the coordinators. Reviewers commit to evaluating the works in the shortest possible time, as well as to respecting delivery deadlines, since at Lumina the time limits for holding manuscripts pending review are strict, out of respect for the authors and their works.
  • Confidentiality: each assigned manuscript is confidential. Therefore, these texts must not be discussed with third parties without the explicit permission of the editors.
  • Objectivity: peer review must be conducted objectively. Any personal judgment about the authors of the contribution is considered inappropriate. Reviewers must provide reasonable grounds for their judgments. Reviewers must submit a complete critical report with appropriate references to Lumina's review protocol and to the public standards established for reviewers, especially in cases where rejection of the work is proposed. In addition, reviewers are obliged to alert the editors if substantial sections of the work have been previously published or are being reviewed by another publication.
  • Review of the text: reviewers commit to accurately indicating bibliographic references to fundamental works that may have been overlooked by the author. Reviewers must also alert the editors to any similarities or overlaps between the text and other already published works.
  • Conflict of interest and disclosure: confidential information or information obtained during the peer review process must be treated as confidential and may not be used for personal purposes. Reviewers should only accept a review if there is no conflict of interest.

Commitments of the editors:

  • Publication decisions: the editors guarantee the selection of the best reviewers and scientific specialists to provide a critical appraisal of the work, with the greatest possible objectivity. Lumina uses the double-blind review method in its analyses.
  • Honesty: the editors evaluate articles submitted for publication based solely on the scientific merit of the content, without discrimination based on the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political opinion.
  • Confidentiality: the editors and members of the working group commit to not disclosing information about articles submitted for publication to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and editors. The editors and the editorial committee are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts, their authors, and their reviewers, so that anonymity preserves the intellectual integrity of the entire process.
  • Conflict of interest and disclosure: the editors commit to not using the research content of articles submitted for publication without the authors' written consent.
  • Respect for time: the editors are responsible for meeting the stipulated time frame for the review and publication of accepted works, in order to ensure the rapid dissemination of results.
