research on Hellenic Antiquity has traditionally focused on the polis of Athens, particularly in the context of the 5th century BCE. However, recent historiographical trends, driven by methodological innovations and the emergence of new research topics, have encouraged the study of previously marginalized societies. In this context, the polis of Samos stands out as a significant center of power during the 6th century BCE, especially under the tyranny of Polycrates. This article aims to analyze Samos’ thalassocratic policy in the Archaic period, examining its practices of conquest, naval power, and commercial networks based on the available Hellenic documentation.
