Segregação Socioespacial e Direito à Paisagem na Zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro (RJ)

This study seeks to critically analyze how ethnic-racial and class intersections shape the production of the landscape in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone, problematizing the disputes over the right to the landscape in a territory historically marked by socio-spatial contrasts. The research employed a literature review, collection of secondary data from the Pereira Passos Institute and the 2022 Demographic Census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, fieldwork, and the creation of thematic maps. The results indicate a pattern of segregation that combines a high concentration of black and brown populations and low incomes in favela areas, in contrast with the neighborhoods, which show a predominance of white populations and income levels exceeding ten minimum wages.
