Abstract

The study addresses the formation of the regional space of Campo Mourão and its relationship with the road network and agro-industrial growth, marked both by the historical legacies of its formation and by the transformations resulting from recent modernization. It seeks to analyze the relationship between the city’s formation and the processes of road network expansion, highlighting the need for policies that reconcile preservation with the promotion of urban development. The research has a qualitative and descriptive character, taking as reference the city’s general landscape, where historical buildings and expanded roads stand as witnesses of the changes that have taken place since the mid-20th century. The theoretical framework is grounded in concepts of urban landscape and urban planning, which allow for an understanding of the tensions between modernization, the enhancement of the central area, and the preservation of constructions of symbolic value. In this context, the role of PR-317 is also emphasized, given its relevance as a logistical axis that directly impacted the municipality, particularly in the consolidation of agro-industry and in the rural landscape, by facilitating the flow of production and attracting investments to the region. The study aims to identify the pressures exerted by urban growth on historical heritage and to highlight the importance of public policies directed toward the conservation of this legacy, ensuring that the modernization of Campo Mourão occurs in balance with the appreciation of its cultural identity.
