Abstract

This article presents the plot involving Itapemirim, in the southern region of Espírito Santo, in a complex network of slave trade in the Southeast after the promulgation of the Eusébio de Queirós Law. As it is the region with the least inspection, numerous ships transporting Africans continued to land on the south coast of Espírito Santo after 1850. They were mainly shipped to coffee farms in Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, the Zona da Mata de Minas Gerais and north of Rio de Janeiro . The countless denunciations and correspondences related to the subject show that the problem worried the authorities of the Empire and that lasted throughout the 1860s.
