With the advent of the democratization of 1945 – despite de limitations – it is possible to recognize the construction of a democratic experience by means of consolidation of political parties, the improvement of electoral mechanisms and the expansion of the electorate. In the 1950 elections for the sul-rio-grandense state government, the catholic anticommunism permeated the electoral process. In this work, from the perspective of political history, we aims to understand the influence of Catholic Church through the dictates promoted by the Catholic Electoral League (LEC) in the party-political advertising of Partido Social Democrático (PSD) and the Partido Trabalhista Brasileiro (PTB) conveyed in the Correio do Povo and Diário de Notícias newspapers.
