The work on canvas was intended to explore the relationship between the sphere of the political and the religious from a cultural practice very present in the daily life of the groups that formed the modern western civilization, the sacred oratory. Having as a source of analysis a sermon preached by Father Teodoro de Almeida (1722-1804), an importante member of the Congregation of the Oratory of Portugal, and one of the main responsible for the diffusion of the Enlightenment ideas in Lusitanian soil, it was tried to show how the death of the King D. Pedro III was reflected in the pulpit, in a speech that articulates diverse representations of the social life, pretending to be instructive in the behavioral field to the individuals who perhaps heard or would come to read the oratory piece.
