Abstract

We aim to analyze the political conflicts that involved the educational and religious fields in Rio Grande do Sul between 1937 and 1945, permeated by the nationalist thought and discourse of the Estado Novo regime. To do so, our spatial cut will occur in the municipality of Novo Hamburgo, located near the state capital, Porto Alegre. Novo Hamburgo has a strong presence of German immigrants, and many of these are of Evangelical-Lutheran religious denomination. Our laboratory of study is the Evangelical School Oswaldo Cruz, because in this educational space several conflicts occurred, where political and religious interests were directly related to the historical conjuncture of that moment of the world and Brazilian society.
