At the time of the secularization of the State, many conflicts occurred in the initial period of the Brazilian republic. In this article we will look at the tensions that the Methodist missionary Justus Nelson became involved in Belém do Pará against all those who crossed his path, such as the Catholic Church, the Republicans and even other Protestants like him, thus showing his ability in the field political-religious. The controversies that the notorious Methodist leader was involved in were as varied as possible, since the pastor ended up debating civil marriage, the laws of the country, theological issues and even the Círio de Nazaré, which is why he spent a few months in prison.Downloads
