Abstract

The present text analyzes the book Panorama do teatro brasileiro (Panorama of the Brazilian theater, freely translated, 1997 [1962]), by Sábato Magaldi, considered one of the "founding fathers" of our theatrical historiography. This work became a canon of theatrical historical studies and a fundamental guide in classes of graduate and postgraduate courses in theatre and performing arts. Starting from the studies on Nelson Rodrigues’ Vestido de Noiva (Bride Dress) staging by Os Comediantes (The comedians) company in 1943, even though initially, it seeks to understand the strength games in the intellectual and artistic fields which this author worked, the strategic alliances signed, the occupied position and the disputes that led to the construction and consecration of this narrative.
