Abstract

The presented article aims comprehend the urban development in São Bento do Tamanduá’s village (actually Itapecerica, estate of Minas Gerais, Brazil) in the early years of town’s foundation, during the transition of eighteenth to nineteenth century. For this, the focus of analysis is centered the ecclesiastical implementation’s process, occurred with Saint Benedict’s parish foundation, the laic religious associations presence and the building of churches. In this way, the ecclesiastical structure is understood as a sample of the social dynamics occurred during the olds’ village foundation in Minas Gerais.
