Abstract

The article seeks to analyze how the Brazilian consulate in Luanda collaborated with the British efforts in the anti-traffic activity in the South Atlantic between 1850 and 1860 and with that sought to defend the free trade as a means to promote the complete extinction of the slave trade and to present the Empire of the Brazil as a civilized and progressive nation.
