THE READER AND READING 'IN' AND 'FROM' DIGITAL CULTURE
THEORETICAL DIVAGATIONS FROM IMMERSION IN 'WATTPAD', A VIRTUAL SELF-PUBLISHING PLATFORM

Beyond the many supports afforded by the advent of new digital technologies, the possibilities for reading in today's connected world are also diverse, and virtual self-publishing platforms and similar websites have contributed to the greater dynamism of this activity. Therefore, this article discusses the interactivity inherent in the world of screens in relation to reading practice, drawing on the context provided by a virtual self-publishing platform called Wattpad, the main research topic of a doctoral thesis defended in the field of Literature: Literary Studies. For a broader discussion, some scholars were selected, such as Roger Chartier (1999), Lucia Santaella (2004), and Katherine Hayles (2012). The aforementioned platform expands the horizons not only of writers, but especially of readers, promoting an interactive immersion for wattpaders who are surrounded by screens, sine qua non requirement for reading, being, and existing in the modern world.
