Este ensayo de 1989 del profesor Michael R. HILL apareció originalmente en la edición del sesquicentenario de How to Observe Morals and Manners (1838) [Cómo observar la moral y las costumbres], obra escrita por la socióloga inglesa Harriet MARTINEAU (1802–1876).
