Realistic simulation for teaching diagnostic reasoning in nursing consultations for patients with pulmonary tuberculosis

Objective: Evaluate the realistic simulation scenario for teaching diagnostic reasoning in nursing consultations for patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Method: This research addresses the third stage of a methodological study, whose previous stages involved structuring and validating a realistic simulation scenario between 2020 and 2021. The scenario was applied and evaluated by Bachelor's degree Nursing students at the Universidade Federal de Sergipe in September 2023. Twenty-six students enrolled in the last academic period of the Bachelor's degree in Nursing were included. The scenario assessment was made during three stages of the Debriefing. Results: In the Briefing, they demonstrated engagement regarding the use of the active simulation methodology. In the Debriefing, absence of relevant information for diagnostic was identified. Of the 18 selected diagnoses, 14 were listed, as well as suggestions for improving the scenario, including the time available for the activity. The quality of the scenario was analyzed by design scale. Conclusion: The realistic simulation scenario was evaluated by students as satisfactory in relation to the parameters. The presented suggestions aimed to improve the clarity and structuring of the simulation and were adapted. The need for content adjustments is relevant between the simulated case and the nursing diagnoses.
