INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AS A TOOL FOR FOSTERING GYNECOLOGIC NURSING CONSULTATION QUALITY

Descriptive qualitative study carried out in April and May of 2006, at a reference gynecologic unit from Fortaleza’s (Ceara, Brazil) health system. The aim was at analyzing nurses’ and users’ awareness concerning to actions that improve efficient communication during gynecologic nursing consultation. Data were collected from semi-structured interview and practice observing. Seven nurses and 40 users participated in the study. Content analysis was the guideline for empirical material analysis. From nurses’ point of view, to communicate well, one has to make oneself being understood. They report they search to talk and listen to users as well as they use several technologies within education and health promotion, which facilitate interpersonal communication and relaxing during gynecologic consultation. To users, time is a constraint factor within communication. They appeal to a humanized assistance in health producing ways. The study concludes that nurse/user communication is a primary element so that people can walk in a balanced way, showing to be necessary to admit the challenge of fostering the interactive relationship in professional activities day-by-day.Downloads
