Abstract

Cestodes of the Order Proteocephalidea are the principal parasites of Pseudoplatystoma, genus of Siluriform fishes present in Brazil and other parts of South America. There are three species of Pseudoplatystoma: P. corruscans, P. fasciatus and P. tigrinum. Twelve proteocephalid species were
known from Pseudoplatystoma species from Amazon, Mato Grosso, Paraná and São Francisco rivers. The proteocephalid species are tabulated for each Pseudoplatystoma species. A key to identify the proteocephalids is presented, and when necessary, some comments on the species.
