Resumen

The article analyzes some formal aspects about the movies Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019), both directed by Ari Aster, in order to understand how mise-en-scène elements are essential for horror atmosphere composition. The movies reached many reactions since their released; it has won awards and received peculiar reviews from reviewers, public and press. Thus, we argue that there is not a new way of making horror cinema in these productions, but a play set between the resumption of consolidated narratives in the genre, a staging that evokes the canonic traditions, what according Peter Hutchings (2004) has been known as modern horror. The movies achieve also an appeal for affects, a tendency of body experience that passed by transformations in the genre after 2000.
