Abstract

The article focuses on the documentaries Trabalhadoras Metalúrgicas (1978), directed by Olga Futemma and Renato Tapajós, and Peões (2004), directed by Eduardo Coutinho. Although produced in different periods, both films address characters who witnessed the same historical moment: the metallurgical strikes in São Bernardo do Campo. While the first film is based on contemporary accounts of these strikes, the second explores the workers' memories of the period. The study aims to investigate the relationship between mothers and children from the perspective of female industrial workers, especially by examining how intimate spaces, such as the women’s homes, are represented in the films. Since these works narrate the same historical process, the study also intends to observe the changes that occur between contexts concerning motherhood and industrialization.
