Abstract

As the Classical world culture continues to shape that of the modern West, this article intends to observe the permanence of the classics in contemporary audiovisual production. In this sense, we will take as object of our study the game a role-playing game which merges fantasy and science fiction, a piece with strongest roots in the literature of the Greco-Roman world: Final Fantasy IX (Square, 2000). In order to locate elements of the Classical culture within the game, our study will consider the prolific relationship between Literature and Game Studies. Thus, we attempt to consider games as means for the dissemination of texts and imagery of the antiquity.
