Abstract

Inglês: This paper presents and discusses some aspects of the view of language offered in the philosophy of L. Wittgenstein. It is centered around his understanding of the kind of stability that can be atributed to meaning in language – a view which is pregnant with implications to Linguistic Theory, but whose significance is bound to be underr ated if one does not go beyond a superficial fixation in the well-known (and worn out) motto “meaning is use”. The general goal here is to explore some complex conteptual issues this motto merely labels, about what it is to learn a language, how we produce and understand linguistic expressions, and what it is for a language to be a rule-governed activity.
