Abstract

Inglês: This paper addresses the relationship between language and thought, discussing the issue within the cognitivist framework of embodied realism. The general thesis that thought is articulated as language is explored in two of its classic versions, which are then confronted with the more recent cognitive approach. We show that, while the classic approaches tend to stand in clear and opposed places within the broader debate of foundationalism vs. relativism, embodied realisms hybrid position in this debate is not as yet complemented by a perspicuous picture of the relationship between language and thought.
Key-words: embodied realism; language/ thought; foundationalism; relativism
