The present work deals with the figure of Athaliah (2Kings 11: 1-20), who was the only woman to rule the Kingdom of Judah in antiquity. Although the biblical text classifies her as an illegitimate ruler, historiography has, in recent years, proposed the possibility of seeing her as a legitimate ruler who reigned temporarily as regent in favor of his grandson Joash who, at the time, was too young to take the throne of Judah. Moreover, historiography has also proposed that much of the negative view one has of Athaliah is due to the fact that most of the biblical texts were written by remnants of the group who opposed it in their regency and their dynastic home of origin, namely the House of Omri.
