This paper aims to discuss the historical formation of the Buddhist canon, especially the portion known as Abhidharma, as well as the doxological consequences derived therein. Through a historical review, I intend to analyze the development of the main points of contention between the schools of the abhidharmic period, the principal approach and solutions offered in order to address the divide between the concepts of conventional (prajñapti) and absolute (paramārtha), from the first abhidharmic schools of thought up to Nāgārjuna’s understanding of the problem.
