Abstract

The main object of the article is the documentary Os arrependidos (2021). The movie approach the period of the military dictatorship in terms of peculiar characters: the ex-militants who publicly recanted for having participated in the armed opposition to the regime. The article focuses on the title of the production in order to show how a certain detail, the presence of the definite article os, reflect broader issues, including the directors’ judgments about the subject of the narrative. As a counterpoint, the article also discusses the inclusion of the prefix in in the title of the book Injustiçados (2021), about the ex-guerrillas executed by the revolutionary courts for alleged betrayals and collaborations with the repressive agentes.
