Abstract

This article proposes a brief overview of the life and work of the American artist Alice Neel, highlighting the importance of looking at her production aligned with her political engagement. As one of the most important portraitists of the 20th century, Alice Neel has been recognized for the body of her work and the formal quality of her painting. Two important parallels are drawn, linking the painter to Griselda Pollock and Ortega y Gasset, in aspects related to femininity and the dehumanization of art.
