This article discusses Ivan Serpa's teaching at the Modern Art Museum art school in Rio de Janeiro during the early 1950s, based on publications in the press at the time and their connections with Mário Pedrosa's political project and theses on art education by Herbert Read and John Dewey. This was an important experience both in the field of education and in brazilian art, with wide dissemination, actions and proposals that suggest more than a teaching method, but an ethical position.
